13 bikes, a garden and 5k – making time for charity

People from around our business have done some extraordinary things over the last few months – taking time out to do something worthwhile not just for a great cause but for great people too.

Here are just some of the things they’ve been up to:

Bikes for Charity13 bikes for Barnardo’s

LV= Broker came together to take part in a challenging team building activity as part of the Broker Leadership event, an event hosted by Mike Crane and his exec team.

The Leadership group was split into 13 teams and each person was allocated parts of the bike which they were then required to build.  After 2 hours each team had built a fully-working bike to be donated to the children’s charity Barnardo’s. The bikes have been given to 2 groups of children who are supported by Barnardo’s children services and they will make a huge difference to these people’s lives.

Helena Burley, Senior Corporate Partnerships Manager at Barnardo’s said “A huge thank you to the LV= Broker team for generously donating both their time and expertise in building these brilliant bikes and for ensuring that the young people supported by our services in London know that someone truly ‘Believes in Children’ and cares about their future. Thank you so much”.

Garden for NicoleA garden for Nicole

The Broker Marketing Team swapped suits and ties for construction boots and shades recently, as part of a Well Child Helping Hands project to create a lovely outdoor space for Nicole in East London. Nicole is 15 and almost blind so a safe space outside was really important for her.

WellChild Project Manager Lee was their guiding light over the 2 day challenge to reform a garden and provide a safe space for Nicole to enjoy as summer approaches. Everyone learnt new skills and valued the opportunity to make a difference.

City RaceThe Standard Chartered City Race

LV= was recently represented again at this year’s Standard Chartered Great City Race, a 5k road race around the City of London.

This corporate team running event aims to raise funds and awareness for the official race beneficiary ‘Seeing is Believing’. The race was held outside the grounds of the Honourable Artillery Company, and went under the Barbican Centre, around St Paul’s Cathedral, Guildhall, the LV= Cheapside office, the Bank of England, Tower 42, before an ‘out and back’ section along the London Wall, before heading past Moorgate station back to the start line.

The LV team, which this year consisted of representatives from GI Broker, GI Business Change, CIO and Legal & Secretariat, lined up alongside 5000 other runners who were representing various insurance, accountancy, banking, legal and media companies based in London.

Despite it being a glorious day of sunshine, the temperature had dropped a little by the time the race started, and with finishing times ranging from just over 19 minutes to 37 minutes, all of our runners got to the finish line safely.
